Eligibility Rules for Temporary Employees
If you are a Temporary Employee, you will be eligible to participate in the Plan as follows:
- Before January 1, 2009 – if you are a Temporary Employee hired to replace another employee who is on vacation or bona fide leave of absence, you will be eligible to participate on the first day of the month after you have been actively employed with the same Employer for at least six continuous months. Or, if you are a Temporary Employee hired to fill a position created by a special project or a temporary excess of work, you will be eligible to participate on the first day of the calendar month after you have been actively employed with the same Employer for 30 days.
- On and after January 1, 2009 – if you are a Temporary Employee you will become eligible to participate on the first day of the second calendar month after you have accumulated at least 800 hours of service with one or more of the Employers during any six consecutive month period that begins before or after January 1, 2009. You will be eligible for coverage for the six consecutive calendar months beginning with the second calendar month following the qualifying six-month period. Thereafter, as long as you continue to satisfy the 800-hour requirement in each succeeding six-month period (i.e., the six-month period beginning each month after the last month in your prior qualifying six-month period), you will remain eligible.
For example, if you work 800 hours in the six-month period beginning on January 1, 2009 and ending June 30, 2009, you will be eligible for coverage in August 2009 through January 2010. If you also work 800 hours in the six-month period beginning July 1, 2009 and ending December 31, 2009, you will be eligible for coverage from February 2010 through July 1, 2010, and so on.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Even though you may satisfy the eligibility requirement, your coverage cannot become effective until you file a completed enrollment form with the Plan Administrator. To avoid a delay in coverage, be sure to act promptly.
